Who runs BikeCheck?

BikeCheck is published by Nina Boulton, a private individual, on a non-professional basis. Contact: ninaboulton@icloud.com. Full details are in the legal notice.

The service

BikeCheck helps you keep track of wear on your bike parts: it fetches your rides from Strava (or the ones you enter by hand), works out the distance covered by each component, estimates its wear based on riding conditions, and lets you know when maintenance is coming up.

The service is free. It may change over time: features may be added, changed or removed.

Estimates, not guarantees

Wear estimates, replacement thresholds and alerts are indicative. They are based on averages, on your rides and on what you enter: the actual wear of a part depends on many things BikeCheck can't measure (maintenance, weather, riding style, part quality, installation…).

Maintenance decisions remain yours. Check your equipment regularly, especially brakes, tyres and drivetrain, and ask a mechanic when in doubt. A part may be worn or faulty before BikeCheck flags it, and an alert may not go out (email not received, notifications blocked, sync interrupted).

The service is provided “as is”, with no guarantee that estimates are accurate or that the service is always available.

Your account and the Strava connection

To use BikeCheck, you sign in with your Strava account and allow BikeCheck to read your profile, bikes and activities. You can withdraw this permission at any time from Strava (Settings → My Apps): the data imported from Strava is then deleted from BikeCheck.

You are responsible for access to your Strava account and to the device you're signed in on. BikeCheck is not affiliated with or endorsed by Strava, Inc.; your use of Strava remains subject to its own terms.

Acceptable use

When using BikeCheck, you agree not to:

• try to access other users' data or get around the site's protections;
• disrupt the service (mass automated requests, deliberate overload, probing for vulnerabilities without telling me);
• use the contact form to send unlawful, abusive or promotional content, or spam;
• use the service for any unlawful purpose.

If you find a security issue, please write to me at ninaboulton@icloud.com rather than exploiting it.

What you enter

The data you enter (bikes, components, maintenance, notes, ride conditions) remains yours. You only allow me to store and process it to run the service.

Messages sent through the contact form must stay respectful and shouldn't include unnecessary sensitive data. I only use them to reply to you and improve BikeCheck.

How your data is handled is detailed in the privacy policy. You can download a copy of your data from the settings at any time.

Availability

I do my best to keep BikeCheck running smoothly, but it's a personal project: no service level is guaranteed. The site may be unavailable for maintenance, because a provider is down (hosting, database, Strava), or for any other reason.

If I ever had to shut the service down for good, I would do my best to warn you in advance so you can export your data.

Account deletion and termination

You can stop using BikeCheck whenever you like and delete your account yourself from the settings (Settings → Danger zone → Delete account). All your data is then erased from the database; it may remain for up to 30 days in encrypted backups, as explained in the privacy policy.

In case of a serious breach of these terms (for example an attempt to access other users' data), I may suspend or delete the account concerned, after warning you where possible.

Liability

As BikeCheck is a free, indicative helper tool, I can't be held liable for wear, breakage or a mechanical incident that an estimate didn't anticipate, nor for data loss caused by a provider or a service interruption, to the extent permitted by law.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes my liability for gross negligence or wilful misconduct, for death or personal injury caused by my fault, or any right you have under consumer law that cannot be waived by contract.

Intellectual property

The BikeCheck name, logo, texts and code belong to Nina Boulton. You may use the site for your own personal use, but not copy or reuse them without permission.

Strava and its associated marks and logos belong to Strava, Inc. They are used only to indicate the connection with Strava.

Changes to these terms

These terms may change along with the service. The last-updated date is shown at the top of the page. For significant changes, I'll let you know in the app, or by email if you've provided one. If you don't agree with the new terms, you can delete your account at any time.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by French law. If we disagree, please write to me first: we'll very likely find a friendly solution. Otherwise, the dispute will be brought before the competent French courts, without prejudice to the protective rules you benefit from as a consumer in your country of residence.
